A Couple of Olys

Yesterday and today I took the Olympia Avenue route from Math Annex. Google Maps says it's 1.9 miles.  It includes a steep uphill from Olympia at Nevada to approximately Olympia at Forest way (about 1300 feet or.25 miles. **get elevation change estimate**

Times were comparable to times from CUE, all things considered. I didn't record yesterday's times;  today's are in the Walk Times spreadsheet.

What impressed me is that I had little respiratory distress, no bronchial spasm or hacking/spitting. I also did not need a break at all. I think that taking a dose of water plus a salt signal helps the exercise be easier.

More Dairy (Road, that is)

Math Annex to Dairy Rd outbound on 15:27, about the same as previous trials. Up to the CUB to run errands in about 11:15. Pretty tired after. The weather was warm, 80+which may have contributed to tiredness.

Dairy Rd - More Like the Norm

15:15 out, 15:30 back. Mostly a "purposeful" cadence and step. I would have to really "hurry" to cut many seconds off.

Math Annexto Dairy Rd

... Out in15 minutes plus ( I stopped to look at a CR-V), back in 16:22. The original intent was a 30-minute walk, but I'll have to hoof it to make it to Dairy Rd in that time.

Time-Delimited Walk up Grimes Way

... notionally the first of a series.

I set my timer for 15 minutes at the door of Math Annex and walked east on College, north on Stadium, then east on Grimes toward Airport Rd.  I got up to the "Stop" sign at Dairy Rd. before the timer went off.  Google says that's 1.0 miles.

My count of paces was 1001 (though there's a delta of maybe 20 paces due to losing count while trying to multi-task counting and arithmetic).  I believe my pace is slightly shorter than the Roman pace of 5280 ft / 1000 paces (where the arithmetic came in -- about 63.36  inches) but I haven't stepped off a measured track.

My cadence (in steps) was about 133/min, or 22 per 10 seconds, which is consistent with my subjective evaluation.  Upping the cadence to 24 (a lot of work, in my experience) would result in less than 500 additional feet in 15 minutes, but would probably do more for my aerobic conditioning and insulin acceptance.

Math Annex to Beasley - Measured

According to Google Maps, 1.4 miles.  I stepped off 1430 paces in 22:03 (1000 paces in 15:33).

Derived measures:  1000 of my paces = 1 mi (close enough)

My "purposeful" cadence": 130 steps per minute (22 in ten seconds).

Back in The Saddle - Oly Style

Today I did a version of the Olympia Ave walk, starting from my new job location (not really an "office" :-( ), going up Oly to Global Animal Health, then turning off past the Vet School down to Stadium Way and back.

Times:
To Stadium and Nevada: 4:22
To the top of Oly: 5:59
Back home: 12:38

A total of 23:00.  This was a warm-up walk, cadence about 132/min.  The time on the upslope on Oly is about 1 minute (17%) slower than my best times from the spring and summer.
